Last week, the Striv crew, partnered with Midland University, had the opportunity to hang out with 260 Striv Schools Students and America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer, Winner Joseph Allen. It was by far the biggest Winter Summit that Striv Education had ever put on.
Joseph Allen arrived on Monday and made a pitstop to visit the Striv class at Aurora Public schools. He and Sara Brune and Eric Allgood took the time to visit with teachers and students in the building. You can check out clips of that visit at the end of the article.
On Tuesday, the Striv team arrived early at Midland to set up for what would be an awesome summit experience. The goal of the summit was to have teachers and students alike leave with a deeper passion to create, greater knowledge of multimedia content creation and make connections with teachers and students from across the state.
Following our morning session, the Striv team tried something they had never done before at a Winter Summit: Breakout Sessions. Eric Allgood, Ben Mohorn, Dante Bowlehower, Alyssa Allmon, and special guest Hunter Radenslaben, all shared their knowledge and expertise on 4 areas in digital content creation: Podcasting, Broadcasting, Videography and Photography, and Social Media. Students were allowed to sign up for one session, but teachers were sent home with resources to all 4 presentations to share with their students in the classroom. ‘
To kick off the morning, Midland University welcomed the team, teachers and students to their campus and explained the opportunities for content creation, journalism, digital media available to them! Everyone met the entire Striv Team and learned more about the individual roles each person plays on the team, but the main attraction was Joseph Allen. Joseph shared his story about what it took to get the Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandell. He talked about his past and what he learned from it, as well as what he hopes to do in the future. We ended our time with Joseph by doing a Q&A where we learned about the lives of America’s Got Talent Judges, all the way to Joseph’s preferred coffee order.
To end our day at Winter Summit, Midland shared their philosophy on building your personal brand. Sara was able to recognize current academy students, and the entire group was given the opportunity to meet and take photos with Joseph, and last but not least, we had a taco bar and giveaways. The day went off as a complete success, and the team hopes that everyone who attended enjoyed the event, as much as they enjoyed putting it on. For more photos from the day, search #strivwintersummit.
